Kansas City Poetry Slam

Kansas City Poetry Slam is a competitive, elimination style poetry event that happens the first Wednesday of every other month at Blip Roasters. This event has an entry fee of $5.

The sign up list drops at 7:30 pm sharp the night of the slam. A poet must sign up in person the night of the event. 10 poets are chosen via random draw. Poets advance in rounds by scoring points awarded by Designated Judges in the audience.

10 poets the first round. 5 poets the second round. 3 poets in the final round. The winning poet receives a $50 cash prize.

Poets who compete regularly in the Slam season (Sept. - May) have the opportunity to compete on the regional and national level on behalf of Kansas City Poetry Slam. Learn more here.

Poetic Underground

Poetic Underground is an open mic that happens every Wednesday, 8pm-10pm also at Blip Roasters (excluding the first Wednesday of the month). there is no cost to attend our open mics.

Sign up list drops at 7:30 pm the night of the event, spots on the list are first come, first serve and in person. Poets are allowed up to 5 minutes of stage time.

Poetic Underground KC Showcase

The poetic underground kc Showcase is a curated showcase of performers that happens the first Wednesday of every other month at Blip Roasters. This event has an entry fee of $5.

This event highlights the poetic works of six carefully selected community members with 15 minute sets each. These performers are selected via an application process that drops a month in advance on our instagram page.

This event is hosted by our communications director, rylan scott keeling.


Writing Workshops

Writing Workshops Happen on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month and are open to all Skill Levels, Ages 17+ recommended.

2nd Wednesdays are Generative Workshops focusing on writing new material. 4th Wednesdays are revision workshops that focus on Editing.

All workshops are at 6 pm in the conference room at Blip. There is no cost to attend workshops.
